Where has she gone?

She's gone! It was a typical day, nothing out of the ordinary, when someone shows up with a crate, "the other" is wriggled inside, and before I realize it, she's taken to a waiting car and they drive away. Where to or for how long I have no idea. I have mixed emotions. I do not miss the hissing and territorial disputes, but in a weird way, I miss the attention, and I certainly miss the extra food dish. It is rather quiet and lonely here now.

Learning Session

Apologies to my fans - my chronicler was busy. I am often amazed at how the "Other" regards me with such fascination. I think she is in awe as I roll and frolic through life, while she makes furtive glances, seemingly in fear of some unknown threat. She should pattern herself after me more often - she may learn something.

Vacation!

After 3 hours in my carrier cage, I find my self in a vaguely familiar setting full of old smells, fascinating noises outside, and best of all, a vacation from the "other"! It took me no time to relax in the sun or to camp out on tabletops with the best view of the world passing by outside. One unfortunate thing is that up here, there is only one food dish to sample from, and it seems to be usually empty. I think they expect me to run around and catch mice, but only in their dreams (and mine).

More of the same

Sometimes this song and dance gets a little weary. She blocks my advance while I stake out her perch, and vice versa. She still hisses and swipes at me, but I retain my cool. Whatever, as long as I get fed on time.

Garden Party

We got to go out and enjoy the fresh air today, although in a fenced in area. The "other" was able to pass through the fence with ease to explore the outside world, but with my impressive girth, alas, I was locked inside. Still, with tail a-quiver, I explored every square inch of what was available to me. The "other" remained fascinated with me, even with all the other outside distractions.

Global Relations

She now seems to have developed a love-hate relationship, where she wants attention but needs to maintain control. She parks herself in my path either in a doorway or on the stairs, and when I try to pass, she starts hissing. This morning she even took a swipe at me. I just saunter by, comfortable in the thought that if it came to that, my claws would win out over her paws. It's like my inner Obama (cool, collected, logical, willing to negotiate and coexist) vs her Ahmadinejad (irrational, insecure, flies off the handle, eager to confront). Hopefully she'll come to her senses.

Follow the Leader

We have an unspoken truce. She still hisses and growls for show when I get within 3 feet, and sometimes I just plop down there to antagonize her. She remains intrigued by me and my habits. If I sit on the window sill, then she has to try it when I leave. If I go to the sink for a drink, she jumps up there as well when I'm done, but she remains confused because she doesn't know the technique for drinking. I'd be happy to teach her if she could only get over the hissing thing.

Comfort Zone

Our halo is now down to 5 feet, and now that we both realize that there is no threat, the hissing and growling are not quite as sincere and are now just for show. We even found ourselves in the bath room together, although I didn't notice until later, since I was preoccupied with getting up on the sink and scooping myself a drink.

Halo

I have just about taken over this place, but the fluffy one still puts up a fight. Resistance is futile, especially when I find out where her food dish is. She continues to examine me from a distance, but our hissy halo grows smaller and smaller with each passing hour. Last night it was the entire length of the room, but now it's a mere 10 feet. She's slowly coming to the conclusion that we are to share this space, 50-50 now, soon to be 75-25.

I am transported back in time

I didn't have a clock, but it seemed like 5 hours in my cat box in the car. Just because I'm named after a Norse god, they must think I have the bladder of one. At our final arrival, I am set on the porch as they allow the previous creature to exit the premises. She stops dead in her tracks when she sees me, but that's a typical reaction from the females I've met. We do some territorial hissing, but then I'm led inside, while she continues her dash outside, and I have the place to myself for awhile. This place seems vaguely familiar, but I still take some time to get used to the new smells and sights and creaks. I promptly go up on the table and tip over a vase of flowers just to show who's in charge, then spend a little time lying in each room. When the fluffy creature is returned, she is placed in a room by herself, but she still can't resist sneaking glances at me from below the door. We hiss at each other a few times for good measure, but I don't see any problems from her. This should turn out fine.
